Use this list for a scheduled AZ SkillCare class. Prometric test day has a stricter list. If the date on your paper is an exam appointment, skip to the last section.
The night before
Confirm the date on Dates & Deadlines and on your confirmation. The published address is 20101 Peachland Blvd, Unit 208, Port Charlotte, FL 33954. Follow the confirmation if it names another place.
Bring only the supplies or materials identified in your class confirmation. This article does not add a supply list.
Write down the skill you expect to practice and one question about it. Set an alarm that includes travel time, not only the start time printed for class.
What to wear for skills practice
Prometric requires flat, nonskid, closed-toe shoes on Clinical Skills Test day. Wearing that kind of shoe to a skills class is preparation for that later requirement. It is not stated here as an AZ SkillCare dress code. If your confirmation gives a clothing instruction, follow the confirmation.
A watch with a second hand is suggested by Prometric for the clinical test, because some skills involve measuring pulse or respirations. Bringing one to practice is useful. It is still a test-day suggestion, not a class rule this article is creating.
When you arrive
Arrive early enough to park and start on time. This article does not set a number of minutes for class. Prometric’s 30-minute arrival rule belongs to the exam, and it is described below.
Silence your phone before practice starts. Have the skills log ready if your class uses it. The log is an AZ SkillCare practice sheet. It is not a Prometric score.
During class
Watch the skill, then perform it. Ask the instructor to look at the step you are unsure about. Class is the time for that question. On the Clinical Skills Test, the nurses are not allowed to teach or coach.
Practice the habits the clinical test scores without a prompt: wash your hands before contact, greet the person by name, introduce yourself, and explain what you are about to do. Those are practice habits. The class is not the official test.
After class
Before you leave, write three lines. The skill you practiced. The step you will repeat. The date of the next session. If something about enrollment is still open, use How to Apply rather than guessing.
When the date is a Prometric exam
Stop using the class list. Prometric’s bulletin says to arrive at least 30 minutes early and to bring the admission letter. You must present two valid signed IDs. One must be a current government photo ID, with a signature, and the name must match the admission letter exactly. Study materials, phones, and family members are not allowed in the testing room. Flat, nonskid, closed-toe shoes are required for the Clinical Skills Test.
