Preparing for Your First Healthcare Training Class

The first class is where an instructor teaches the skill. The state exam, if you are on a CNA path, comes later, and only after the Board of Nursing and Prometric steps that apply to your route. Those are different days. They do not share one packing list.

If you are returning to a classroom after years away, you do not need a university orientation. You need the date, the address, and a clear idea of what you will be asked to do with your hands.

Confirm the practical details

Check the start date on Dates & Deadlines and on the confirmation you received. The published classroom address is 20101 Peachland Blvd, Unit 208, Port Charlotte, FL 33954. If your confirmation names a different room or a different day, follow the confirmation.

Give yourself enough time to park and walk in. Write down one question you want answered. A question about a skill, a date, or what happens after class is enough. You do not need a speech.

Enrollment steps, if you still have them open, are on How to Apply. Attending class does not file a Prometric application for you.

Bring what the class told you to bring

Bring only the supplies or materials identified in your class confirmation. This article does not add a supply list.

A notebook and a pen are ordinary tools for taking down what the instructor says. They are not a secret requirement. If the confirmation names something else, bring that. If it names nothing else, do not invent a kit.

Shoes are a test-day rule you can practice now

Prometric requires flat, nonskid, closed-toe shoes for the Clinical Skills Test. A watch with a second hand is suggested for that test. Those are Prometric’s test-day instructions. They are not printed here as an AZ SkillCare dress code.

If your class includes skills practice, wearing closed-toe shoes is a useful way to get used to moving the way the later test requires. Follow the confirmation if the school has given you a different instruction for that session.

Expect to watch, then do the skill

Prometric’s own checklist says the procedures are learned from the instructor and from textbooks. The checkpoints show what a nurse will look for on test day. They are not the first lesson.

On the first day, watch the skill, then try it. Ask the instructor to look at the step you are unsure about. That question is appropriate in class. On the Clinical Skills Test, the nurses are not allowed to coach you.

You will not finish every skill in one session. Before you leave, name one skill to repeat and the date of the next class. The study-resources page can hold the reading. The classroom is where the hands-on correction happens.

Leave the exam paperwork on its own list

The Prometric application, the admission letter, the two identification documents, and the background screening are not first-class homework unless you are already in that process. The Board’s CNA page explains the screening in general terms. Your first day in the classroom does not replace it.

When the date on your calendar is a Prometric appointment rather than a class, stop using this article. Use the exam-day page and the admission letter Prometric sent you.

Confirm the start date on Dates & Deadlines, and use How to Apply if you still need to enroll.
