Florida’s CNA exam has two parts: a written test and a skills demonstration. A useful study plan has two tracks as well. One track is the knowledge on the written test. The other is the care you may be asked to perform with your hands.
AZ SkillCare did not write that exam. Prometric administers it. The Florida Board of Nursing sets the certification rules. The plan below uses their published structure so you can decide what to study. It does not turn an AZ SkillCare worksheet into an official Prometric document.
Start with the five written-test areas
Prometric’s Florida candidate bulletin says the written test has 60 multiple-choice questions and a 90-minute time limit. The same bulletin divides the test into five areas. The approximate weights are:
- Role of the Nurse Aide, 20 percent
- Promotion of Safety, 22 percent
- Promotion of Function and Health of Residents, 20 percent
- Basic Nursing Care Provided by the Nurse Aide, 24 percent
- Providing Specialized Care for Residents with Changes in Health, 14 percent
Give the larger shares more than one block on your calendar. Basic nursing care and safety, together, are close to half the written test. A plan that spends every evening on one favorite topic will leave a large part of the exam untouched.
The written test is given in English. If you have difficulty reading English, an oral or Spanish version must be requested on the application. That request cannot be added on test day. Build that decision into the plan early, while you are still applying, not the week of the test.
Add the skills you may be assigned
The clinical side is not a second copy of the written outline. Prometric’s Clinical Skills checklist says 22 skills are part of the Clinical Skills Test. On test day you are scored on five of them. Handwashing and Indirect Care are always two of those five. The other three are assigned when you are scheduled.
You do not perform all 22 skills on test day. You also cannot predict the three assigned skills, so the plan has to leave room for more than one kind of care: moving a person, personal care, measuring and recording, and care such as a catheter or perineal care.
Read the official checklist as a list of what the nurse will look for. Prometric says those checkpoints are not written as procedures and are not the way to learn the skill. Learn the procedure from your instructor and your textbook. Use the checklist afterward to see whether your practice included the points that are scored.
Use the same four steps for each topic
AZ SkillCare uses a simple loop: learn it, practice it, check it, and repeat what you missed.
Learn the topic from class or from a textbook. Practice it out loud if it is a written-test idea, and with your hands if it is a skill. Check it against the bulletin outline or against your skills log. Then repeat the items you could not explain or could not perform.
Study Resources separates the written material from the clinical material. The CNA knowledge page is the written track. The clinical-skills page is the hands-on track. The weekly study planner is an AZ SkillCare worksheet. It is not Prometric’s plan.
Put the work on a real calendar
Assign days. Put skills practice on days when you can stand, move, and use your hands. Reading about a transfer is not the same as practicing the transfer.
Leave a buffer before a test date. Prometric’s bulletin says an application and its fees are good for one year, and a missed or late exam can mean paying to test again. That is a planning fact, not a reason to panic. It is a reason to avoid leaving both tracks for the night before.
If you are also working or caring for family, keep the plan small enough to survive a hard week. Two focused blocks you will keep are more useful than a seven-day schedule you abandon.
A practice score is not the official result
Prometric sells its own nurse-aide practice exam. That exam is Prometric’s. An AZ SkillCare sample question is not that exam, and it is not a leaked or “real” Prometric question.
The bulletin also includes a sample test and says that how you do on the sample does not predict the official result. Use any practice set to find what you still need to study. Do not treat a high practice score as a pass, or a low one as a final answer.
The Board’s rule on three unsuccessful attempts is the other reason to spread the work out. After three unsuccessful attempts, you cannot retest until you complete an approved training program. A steady plan is ordinary preparation. It is not a guarantee that you will pass.
Build the two tracks in the weekly planner, then match the weeks to the class dates on Dates & Deadlines.
